Signs and Showcards (1948) by EC Matthews. Gold Leaf Techniques (1961) by Raymond Leblanc, a standard reference work for any signwriter.

Over 350 enthusiastic sign artisans from a half dozen countries turned out for the event September 23-27. Barteldes is based on American architectural lettering and sign painting. Capital letters were based on architectural lettering by the Denver architectural firm Gove & Walsh and built in 1906. Lowercase letters were based on exemplars in Frank Atkinson's classic manual 'Sign Painting Up to Now', published in 1909.
